Heavenly Bodies - History of the play

2008. Originally written and premiered at Otahuhu College as ‘The twisted tale of Filipo and Verona’.  This Pasifika focused orientated play received a detailed critique by writer and theatre reviewer Brian Hannam. The review is available on this website.

2017. The play is re-written and re-titled ‘Heavenly Bodies’. The most significant change being that the text is no longer culturally specific i.e. Filipo is now Hugo and a Pasifika play has become a New Zealand play featuring classic Kiwi love songs. This decision was deliberately made to ensure the play can be performed in a wider range of NZ schools.

2017 ‘Heavenly Bodies’ is premiered at Otahuhu College. ‘Heavenly Bodies’ wins the award for the Best Production (Play or Musical) at the 10th iTicket Showdown awards.

2018. The play is published in July by Split-stage publications.
