This passage is from the introductory notes of the published play.

Foreword.

Harbouring Ghosts draws upon two primal forces for its inspiration, these forces are the sea and the imagination. From the earliest of times, the sea has been central to humanities search for new lands. Without imagination, the desire to explore new territories may never have existed.

As a writer this play has been my own exploration into the worlds of ghosts and storytelling. My intention quite early in the process was to create a tension led story that would steer teenagers towards some of life’s bigger themes and questions.

As a drama teacher my entire philosophy has been based on the importance of story. My teaching programs encourage pupils to research and perform family stories and to value their own experiences. I believe this is important because it is through story that we have the opportunity to make sense of this complex world that we live in. Stories can also help us to recognise that we are part of a narrative that is much bigger than our own lives.

In my opinion, physics alone does not keep our universe together, it is also held together by stories.
